On Monday, April 20th, SPIRCO/Metal Building Products hosted the Agape Child & Family Services annual Kid’s Classic Golf Tournament at the illustrious TPC Southwind. SPIRCO/Metal Building Products serves as the title sponsor for this annual tournament, which has raised over $450,000 in support of Agape in the past 4 years. These funds go towards serving Agape’s mission of helping children and families in need through adoption, foster care, counseling, mentoring, homeless services, home-based services and more. (Photo is of Barry Sims and David Jordan)
Barry Sims, president of SPIRCO notes that the fit between his organization and Agape is a perfect match. “Our foundations are very similar,” says Sims. “We’re both faith-based organizations, and believe that giving back to the community in which we live is crucial to its success.” The company name SPIRCO was derived from the words “spirit” and “company” while the word Agape is the Greek word for “love”. The event was a success, and the funds raised will further Agape’s reach in the local community.
With offices in Memphis (111 Racine) and Jackson, TN, Agape Child & Family Services is a Christian-based organization which provides children and families with healthy homes in the regional area through adoption, foster care, mentoring, counseling, homeless services and maternity services. Agape will serve at least 30,000 children, adults and families this year through its services. For more information on Agape Child & Family Services or to find out how you can become part of the effort to adopt, foster, mentor and support the children in our community, call 901.323.3600 or visit www.AgapeMeansLove.org.

Position: Attorney
Firm: Allen, Summers, Simpson, Lillie & Gresham
Basics: Lillie, who practices in labor relations and employment law, also spends time working with mission efforts through his church and at AGAPE Child & Family Services.

Shawn R. Lillie, an attorney at Allen, Summers, Simpson, Lillie & Gresham, practices in labor relations and employment law. He represents many large national and international companies and management clients before the National Labor Relations Board, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor and various other federal and state agencies. Just one of the many questions he was asked in the interview is printed below.

Q: How do you like to relax and spend your spare time?

A: I am actively involved with our church, that’s the Germantown Church of Christ, and … my relaxation is being able to do things with my church or with AGAPE Child & Family Services – I serve on the board there – and they do wonderful work, so I like working with them. And I provide pro bono legal services for them; they have a great mission, so I like doing things like that. The past couple of years, I’ve been able to go to Ukraine on mission trips to work with some of our missionaries and some of the different groups of the Ukrainian Bible Institute, so I like doing that. Ukraine’s a neat place to visit. … Anything you can do to help (the people) they are so thankful for, and it’s really neat. They’re really warm and loving people, and I enjoy doing things like that, when I can help others. That may be strange, but that’s fun for me. That’s what I like to do.
