Giving Children and Youth a Chance…One Young Man’s Experience at Agape Villages
We’d like to share a story of a young man who has been served in our foster care program. He came to us when he was 14 years of age. He was placed in a stable foster home, a home in which he has thrived. He was removed from his biological mother’s care because of medical neglect among other reasons.
Before coming to Agape Villages:
He had missed 60 days of school and was failing all sub-jects in school. He was considered a “problem child.”
He had serious health problems because of his diabetic condition. While with his mother, he missed every medi-cal appointment scheduled over the previous years. His health had suffered greatly with many problems.
He was a year behind in his academics and showed no de-sire to be in school. He felt an obligation to take care of his mother who was struggling with substance abuse.
He had never been to church and had never had a Christian influence in his life.
Since being placed in foster care with Agape Villages:
He has been attending school regularly, never missing a day except for when he is ill.
He has been making a 3.0 grade point average and has plans to go to college. One of his teachers stated, “you could not find a more determined and focused stu-dent.”
His health has greatly improved. He has learned how to take control of his diabetic condition. The doctors are amazed by the change in his health condition.
He attends church regularly and loves singing in church.
We are very pleased to be a part of the healing, growth and transformation occurring in the life of this young man. We share this story to be an encouragement to you. Together, we are doing something very special!
