Berean Children’s Home is seeking an Executive Director. The children’s home is residential and takes children beginning at age 6. Currently there are two dorms as well as office and administrative buildings.

Anyone seeking this position must have a master’s degree in childcare or a related field. He or she must also be a faithful member of the Church of Christ. Salary is negotiable and the package includes health care as well as a retirement plan.

The renowned Dr. Maya Angelou will appear in Memphis for Agape’s Heartlight 2012. The event will take place on the evening of August 25th at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts.

Dr. Maya Angelou is one of the most influential voices of our time, and one of the most decorated writers of her generation. She has published dozens of autobiographies, five books of essays, numerous books of poetry, and is credited with a long list of plays, movies, and television shows.

This phenomenal icon is a celebrated poet, memoirist, novelist, educator, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker, and civil rights activist. With dozens of awards and inductions and over thirty honorary doctoral degrees, she will speak for the cause of children, families, and communities. Proceeds from this event will benefit Agape Child & Family Services, Inc.

New Foster Care Partnership

Christian Services of Oklahoma is pleased to announce our partnership with White Fields and 111 Project to locate Christian foster families for boys who are leaving the White Fields’ group home in Deer Creek. Since opening their doors in October 2006, White Fields’ unique continuum of care model has enabled some of the most severely abused and neglected boys in our state to receive the help and hope they need to become whole again.
As White Fields reaches out to assist even more boys, their on-campus foster care homes are reaching capacity. Christian Services of Oklahoma is pleased to be partnering with White Fields to help alleviate this situation. Through this unique program, our agency will recruit, train, certify and maintain foster homes specifically for the White Fields’ boys. We strongly believe that this partnership will result in strong, well equipped families for these children.
Our desire and hope is to keep these boys connected to the community and school where many have lived for 5 years or more. Our efforts will be focused on finding foster families in the North Edmond/Piedmont/Deer Creek area within the faith community who have a desire to serve boys ages 14-18 who are in need of loving families.
This effort highlights our agency’s expanded focus on finding families for older children, in addition to the young ones who have been serving for many years. We believe that all children deserve a family! We ask for your prayers for this new program and the children and families that we will be serving.

Agape Hosts “Healthy Family Screening & Safety Fair”

On Monday, March 12, 2012, Agape hosted its first “Healthy Family Screening & Safety Fair” in partnership with Community Outreach United Healthcare, Christ Community Health Services Operation Outreach, National Health Care for the Homeless Council’s TENNCare, Shelby County TENNder Care, and the Memphis Fire Department. The event, held at Bent Tree Apartments in Whitehaven brought many needed services right to the doorsteps of neighborhood families including dental care, health screenings, fire safety education and crime prevention awareness workshops. During the event, families were able to meet with health and dental professionals, McGruff the Crime Dog and Engine 42 staff from the Memphis Fire Department who talked about crime prevention and fire safety. Healthy snacks and lunch were provided, along with giveaways and the opportunity for kids to take photos with a Memphis Fire Department truck and McGruff the Crime Dog.

“It is important to bring services and knowledge to our citizens where they live,” says Kristee Bell, director of the Powerlines Community Network, led by Agape Child & Family Services and its community partners, a network which strives to restore communities by connecting under resourced neighborhoods with the resources and services needed that will help create a more nurturing environment for children and families. “Families struggle every day with questions about their health and safety. With support from Baptist Memorial Healthcare and other generous supporters, we are able to do this type of outreach, bringing both the awareness and the service providers to families so that they can build a healthier and safer environment for themselves and their children.”

The event was so successful that Agape plans to repeat it in other areas in which it serves, including Hickory Hill, Raleigh and Frayser.

Georgia Agape Golf Marathon – May 14, 2012

This is a fund rasing event to help children and families served through AGAPE. Teams, Donors, and sponsors are all needed.

Although golf is involved, this event is primarily about securing operating funds. AGAPE depends on the success of this event for needed financial support each year.

Christian Services of Oklahoma to Hold Tot Trot

The third annual Tot Trot will be held Friday, May 11, 2012, at Stars and Stripes Park starting at 6 p.m. The Trot is a 5K/1 Mile fun run and walk. Registration includes the walk, a t-shirt and a meal. All proceeds benefit Christian Services of Oklahoma adoption and foster care programs.

Georgia AGAPE is looking for an individual to work with them in the area of recruiting foster parents, foster care case management, doing foster and adoptive home studies and conducting foster parent training with the possibility of advancing into a supervisory role in the future.

This is a full-time position for a professional who is an active member of the Churches of Christ. A person with a Masters degree in social services/human services is preferred or a Bachelors degreed person willing to get a Masters degree.
