Agape HeartLight: “Do Justice” on March 2, 2018

Explore Justice and Mercy on March 2

Join us on Friday, March 2 for our annual HeartLight event. Themed HeartLight: Do Justice, the event will be held at Hope Church (8500 Walnut Grove Rd.) and will feature Bryan Stevenson, author of Just Mercy and Brian Fikkert, author of When Helping Hurts.

Bryan Stevenson
An American lawyer and social justice activist, Bryan is also the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, and a clinical professor at New York University School of Law. Based in Montgomery, AL, Stevenson has challenged bias against the poor and minorities in the criminal justice system, especially children. He has helped achieve court decisions that prohibit sentencing children under 18 to death, or to life imprisonment without parole. Stevenson has assisted in cases that have saved dozens of prisoners from the death penalty, advocated for poor people, and developed community-based reform litigation aimed at improving the administration of criminal justice. He is also the author of Just Mercy.

Dr. Brian Fikkert
A Professor of Economics and Community Development and the Founder and President of the Chalmers Center for Economic Development at Covenant College, Brian is coauthor of the best-selling book When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor…and Yourself. Dr. Fikkert has a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University, specializing in international economics and economic development. Prior to coming to Covenant College, he was a professor at the University of Maryland—College Park and a research fellow at the Center for Institutional Reform and the Informal Sector.
